$165 tube amp new??? - Stage Right
Lives for gear
There is more than i other thread on this amp and Mono's deals. Several of usa here bought them, including me.
Short Answer - No it is not as well good to be true. Information technology's a great value. Now I desire another for stereo and for roughly 300 bux that'due south an insane rig.
Long Answer - The speaker and transformers are easily worth the cost. Add in the chassis and tube sockets and it'south just killer. The downside is the printed circuit board with quite a few surface mount components making some repairs and mods rather difficult, but at that cost I am very seriously considering a true P2P DIY build.

Nice bluesy sound on that video. Are you current Monoprice owners oftentimes using the 1watt setting?
Not me just then I like some headroom and "blossom" and live out in the toolies where volume is due north o biggy. If and when I get the second one for stereo I volition be glad for the 30 watts total and 2nd 12.
I never was a Kiss fan just I did like the message of "I Love Information technology Loud"

Yes and it is reasonably decent but inappreciably its best feature. If you're expecting Vintage Fender Lush, it isn't that. It's just OK merely everything else is more than good plenty to tape or gig with. It's flexible and sugariness.... and permit's face information technology Cheap AF !

^^^This. It doesn't really cut it with a ring if you demand clean tone; it's either clean or loud, but not both.
Still, it's a killer amp for studio work. I got mine when the Monoprice special was $145!

Clean depends on bulldoze. Loud depends on power. How loud and how clean depends a lot on musical tastes and genre. Personally nobody makes (or can brand IMHO) a 15 watt amp that is clean, loud enough for whatsoever band I desire to play in but thirty watts can practice me only fine, but then I don't play direct Country or Jazz where 1 more often than not needs a minimum of fifty watts if not 100.
That said, I would accept zilch problem playing Roots R'nR and Blues with ii of these Monoprice 15 watters in combination. At 30 watts total and two Celestion 12s.for under 300 smackers? Oh yes pretty damned heavenly and quite sufficient.

Yes, it has a reverb tank. I take non opened mine up yet but from the tube complement I would assume that the reverb is not tube driven, but at this toll? Also, the one watt setting really works pretty well. The amp is a bit on the dirty side, tone wise, but if you lot dorsum off the guitar volume it cleans upward more or less passably, and the dirt isn't actually cheesy as one might expect in this toll course. I'd say that it stacks up well against some name brands costing significantly more than, even twice as much if you go one in one of their periodic sales. Mine came in at just a flake over $150, including shipping, IIRC. That'south "can't trounce it with a stick" territory.
